Fixing Inconsistent Device Connections on USB Hubs

When connecting self powered USB devices to our hubs, users might experience inconsistent connections. For instance, connecting a MacBook or another USB hub that uses mains power can lead to the hub not properly negotiating power with the device, preventing the device from connecting to the host machine. This issue often arises when devices are in DFU mode, which alters their power negotiation behaviour.

Solution: Enable ‘ports_on’ Setting

To resolve this issue, you must enable the ‘ports_on’ setting in the hub's internal settings using the latest firmware. This setting ensures the port does not negotiate power to attach the device.

Steps to Enable ‘ports_on’:

  1. Navigate to Hubs:
    • Click on ‘Hubs’ in the left navigation bar.
  2. Select Your Hub:
    • Click on the connected hub you want to configure.
  3. Open Hub Settings:
    • On the right, click on the settings ‘cog’ icon.
  4. Enable ‘ports_on’:
    • Scroll to ‘ports_on’.
    • Tick the chosen port or select ‘ALL ON’.
  5. Apply Changes:
    • Scroll down and click ‘Apply’.
