Data Transfer Only (No Charging)
When the hub’s host port is connected to a host system, the hub defaults to Sync mode. Charge currents are determined according to USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) Super-Speed USB 3 specifications, and there has to be some form of power negotiation to allow data transfer.
Charging Specifications
The hub supports different charging currents depending on the compliance of the connected device with USB specifications:
- If the attached device complies with the USB-IF Battery Charging specification BC1.2 and supports ‘Charging Downstream Port’ (CDP), the hub can provide high-speed charging at 1.5 A.
- If the connected device does not comply with BC1.2, the charge current will be limited to:
- 500 mA for USB 2
- 900 mA for USB 3
Limiting Charge to Connected Devices
If you wish to limit the charging to your devices whilst connected to your host system, you can disable CDP. For more information, refer to our article on Changing CDP Settings for steps on how to adjust this setting.
