Troubleshooting Unknown Device Issues
Occasionally, within LiveViewer, Cambrionix Connect, or the Device Manager, a connected device may appear as an ‘Unknown Device’. Below are some initial troubleshooting steps you can follow:
1. Endpoint Limitation
USB technology can encounter Endpoint limitations, which restrict the number of connected devices. If you’re facing this issue, consider the following:
- Reduce the number of connected devices.
- Switch some devices to USB 2 to alleviate the limitation.
Note: Using USB 2 will limit both charging and data transfer speeds.
For more information, please refer to our article on Endpoint Limitations for a comprehensive overview.
2. Trusted Device
Devices require permission to connect to a host PC. If a device is password-protected, you may need to unlock the screen to enable the connection. You should see a pop-up asking to trust the connection. If you don’t see this prompt:
- Unplug the device and then re-plug it.
- Ensure the device is unlocked and try again.
3. Apple Devices
For Apple devices, the ‘USB Accessories’ setting allows trusted devices to connect more consistently, reducing the need to repeatedly unlock and trust the connection.

4. Lightning Cables
Lightning cables may draw a small amount of current, even when no device is connected, which can cause USB hubs to interpret the cable as a connected device. This may cause hub LEDs to turn on and the appearance of an “Unknown Device” in the Cambrionix Connect interface.
